Wooden Windows vs. Aluminum-Only Frames

Why thermal performance and aesthetics both matter when choosing your window material.

Wooden Frames

Natural insulation value: U ≈ 0.7–1.1 W/m²K

Wood's cellular structure inherently resists heat transfer. Even without aluminum cladding, wooden frames outperform bare aluminum. With modern glazing (triple pane + Low-E), wooden frames achieve U-values as low as 0.5 W/m²K—meaning you lose far less heat to the outdoors.

Aluminum-Only Frames

Base insulation value: U ≈ 5–7 W/m²K (requires thermal break)

Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat—which is why it's used in cookware. Without a thermal break (an insulating material sandwiched into the frame), aluminum frames lose heat rapidly. Modern thermal breaks improve performance, but wooden frames remain superior in pure thermal terms. Aluminum's advantage lies in durability and low maintenance, not efficiency.
